In theory, maybe. But from my own experience in 90s Ukraine, a sack of flour or a bottle of vodka could easily sway someone’s “beliefs.” When people are desperate, they’ll sell their vote for a shot at getting by. Perhaps we’re not there yet in the U.S., but the signs are hard to ignore.

Typically what happens is that people resist facts that challenge their identity. You’re right — asking questions can create cognitive dissonance, making them more open to change. Only truth isn’t enough —how it’s presented matters.
