Exempt employees aren’t paid by annual appropriations, so any agency telling exempt employees that they won’t be paid are wrong. Excepted employees are different, as are those who are furloughed. Those categories of employees are not being paid.

Yes, and furloughed employees did not expect to be paid for Oct 1-3, or for the duration of the shutdown (but do expect to be back paid). This is an issue affecting a different category of employees though. And yes, “good ‘ole DFAS”…fucking shit up since 1991!

The “error” is supposedly being worked. In the meantime, how many people won’t be able to pay their bills? DFAS isn’t exactly known for correcting errors in a timely fashion. I’ve actually never seen them issue an out of cycle paycheck, so soonest this will probably be fixed is in 2 weeks.

To be clear, “exempt” employees are working and are entitled to be paid, and they sure as hell should have accrued leave for the entire pay period too.

I am not sure I believe that this was an accidental error. But maybe. The Air Force sure is acting like this is the first govt shutdown rodeo 🙄

Don’t quote me on the numbers but it looks DFAS (Defense Finance Accounting Service) fucked up the pay and leave of somewhere around ~180K Air Force employees. If you are an “exempt” employee, you probably didn’t get paid for Oct 1-3, nor did you accrue any leave for the entire pay period.
