I thought so too! I hadn't experienced it with this recorder even in very emf heavy environments so it was extra weird.

It was only this short burst over a five minute recording, so I imagine it must have been some piece of equipment of mine, but all I had on me was my phone and a headlamp.

If you want a good recording, having a good performer is the most important thing. Your mic is like #4 in importance, and mix is lower than that.

I got the pattern from a book called Snow Walker's Companion. It's got a ton of good outdoor winter info including about snowshoes.
