I’m hoping that Mario doesn’t finish top, at the very least. He’s the least interesting character in his own series of games!

I hope you’re right, he was my number 1! There aren’t many character in the Mario universe with as much personality as him, he’s brilliant!

I’m from Scotland and it definitely is. I had no idea that this wasn’t common parlance elsewhere in the UK, to be honest!

295 that I’m certain I’ve played. It’s amazing how many of these I’m not sure about - I may have played them, or it may be false memories!

I’m pretty sure the vote split is 10% public vote, 90% critic, so that levels the playing field in that sense; so that the vote can’t be manipulated as easily. There’s not a huge amount separating the sales of E33 and DKB, though - not that sales should dictate who wins GOTY.

(And I’ve just realised that I’m not sure if ‘smashed it’ is a thing in North America or if it’s just a British phrase…whatever the case, I mean that it’s been tremendous every bloody week!)

I know the negative people stand out a lot more even when they’re in the minority, but they absolutely are the minority.

I’m a hypocrite because I absolutely get hung up on that kinda thing - but you shouldn’t. This has been appointment viewing for so many people, you’ve absolutely smashed it.

Even a top 20 would have been tough to compile - so many great games missed out:

1. Omori
2. Monkey Island 2: Lechuck’s Revenge
3. The House in Fata Morgana
4. Slay the Princess
5. Fallout 3
6. Doki Doki Literature Club!
7. Dragon Quest V
8. Corpse Party
9. Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit
10. Tinykin

Where do you stand on Sonic triple Trouble 16-bit, compared to the original? I doubt it’ll gather enough votes, but I want to vote with my heart rather than my head here!
November 4, 2025 at 5:28 PM
Nothing shameless about it, I’m looking forward to reading it!

That’s interesting - I’ve always found the original DQ games very inaccessible because of their age, but you might have sold me on this remake now.

The first 30-hours or so of the 3DS remake are tremendous, but it goes on 70-80 hours longer than it should and becomes a slog by the end. But it has a great premise, and with a ruthless editor could have been an all-timer for the series. It is, as you say, a fascinating choice.

This was a really tough one, but…

1. Omori
2. Vampire Survivors
3. Tinykin
4. Slay the Princess
5. 1000xRESIST
6. Unmetal
7. Nexomon Extinction
8. Mouthwashing
9. Cryptmaster
10. UFO 50

I’m going to miss this feature when it wraps up, I can’t believe we’re nearing the end. Huge, huge credit to @bitnerd.gvg.io for all of this. It’s my favourite ever thing @gvg.io has done, and that speaks volumes given how brilliant your content is.

A few have really dragged for me - I’m wary of posting spoilers, but it’s the fights that go on for a never-ending runs of phases that just killed the game for me. I don’t remember that happening in HK, but there’s every chance I’m misremembering, it’s been a while since I played it.

The problem with Silksong compared to Souls games is that the difficulty is artificially inflated through bosses having enormous health bars, sucking the fun out of each fight. I had it in me to win the battles, I just didn’t want to. I enjoyed Hollow Knight, but this wasn’t for me, sadly.

Ultimately, if you’re getting to the point of single votes, you’re potentially catering to just one person, looking to see a mention of their game. Don’t burn yourself out for the sake of that. The monumental effort you’ve clearly put into this is very much appreciated.

*fantastic. Damn autocorrect!

Dragon Quest V - arguably the best game in the series, and there’s no legal way to play it on a modern platform. Even a simple port of the excellent DS version would be enough.

I hope enough people have played the fantasy Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit for it to make an appearance in the top 50. If anyone reading this hasn’t, I highly, highly recommend you do - it’s outstanding, and a worthy successor to Sonic Mania.
