Patriarchy helps keep men in power by making sure women are too busy focusing on their “shortcomings” (too old/fat/skinny/smelly/hairy/loud) to fight back. It’s all fake distraction.

Teens can absolutely read any book they choose. No one is saying they can’t. But the industry needs to make sure toxic relationships are presented in a way that is age appropriate for teens in a book that is labeled YA. We’re not in the business of glorifying rape.

The point is that the indented audience for YA fiction is under 18. Children. CHILD. REN.
So there actually is an obligation not to cause harm or trauma.

I think we’re not in a position necessarily to “put aside political reasons” at this point which is the whole reason I think Ann is asking this question. Is it ethical or moral to continue using platforms that support fascism? And should publishers pivot to something else?
