@amandarosevphd.bsky.social
Associate Professor of Performance & Pedagogy. I think of myself as an Ethical Paladin but am known for intimacy choreography, larp, immersive theatre, laughing loudly, teaching teachers, adopting dogs, & editing the Journal of Consent-Based Performance
You guys I never realized how stupidly giddy I look while leading workshops.

I guess enjoy my job a little.

Alex Mallory examines the possibility of creating utopic community within the scope of a performance event through voluntary artist/audience exchange that is mutually vulnerable and mutually giving. She demonstrates practice-based ontological examination of the possibilities. #TheatreSky #ATHE2025

Andrew Roblyer challenges traditional considerations of theatre & the "upstream / downstream" perception of regional, Bway, community, & educational theatre in the US. He highlights the sheer number of directing jobs "upstream" before offering a new model directing training. #ATHE2025 #TheatreSky

Next, @tyler7662.bsky.social centers the value of returning to original language text when directing translations, even when the production plays with context, time, and location. He also highlights the value of imagery and cultural touchstones in guiding a director's vision. #ATHE2025 #TheatreSky

Andra Harbold reports on a new devised work developed through moment work: "moment building together heightened our delight radars and strengthened our creative muscle as an ensemble." She argues for directors to approach staging as a "practice of delight" #ATHE2025 #TheatreSky #Directing

The impact of losing a pet is so misappreciated in our society.

He was my 15 yo child. I shouldn’t have to apologize for functioning in this world while leaking a few quiet tears. I shouldn’t be forced to explain. And if I choose to share, I should have the right to punch the “just a dog” people.

A workshop I developed with a focus on performance-as-research methodologies launched yesterday; @drcappilyunknown.bsky.social attended and memeified some of my planned statements and musings. I’m so delighted by this brilliantly nerdy fun!

Pure optimism: I aspire to pull forward with such confidence, to play with such abandon, and to exhibit as much dedication to my values as a happy pup does.

(This is Canyon. She is six, and is the sweetest.)

In the midst of chaos, carving out time to establish mooring in the world.

Took this old man to the beach without the younger pups for a leisurely, no-pressure-to-run afternoon. Fifteen and a half means we enjoy the beach differently nowadays!

Being an IC for verticals can be a wild time. On this set, I learned a lot about working simultaneously with adhesives and wigs and water.

FDR said something like “we can’t always build the future for our lids, but we can build our kids for the future” and y’all… it’s time the kids should be entrusted to build the future for us.

It’s good to be home! Taking the pups to the park after a week working in NYC and Denver.

I can’t believe it was over a hundred degrees!
Thanks to all who came to Denver & spent the weekend three feet from the sun learning about intimacy choreography & consent-based performance practices with me, the TIE team, and CTG!

Today I led a workshop at a place I always believed was the material of dreams and entirely out of this lil farm kid’s reach.

I am gobsmacked that I was invited & I’m reeling just from being in these halls, let alone being allowed to impart some of my thoughts on our craft to others.

My latest: consent mechanic design for, and performance in, this immersive gamified performance (“Monstrosity”) which ran in Berlin recently and runs in Atlantic City this fall!

Grades are submitted and students have walked! This year I found myself just a touch envious, as my own PhD graduation was during COVID times and done online, but I’m chuffed to have some fab faculty friends with whom I can celebrate graduation ceremonies for CSUF students!

Once again forgot to take any photos at the larp this weekend, but I’m absolutely chuffed with how the Berlin Preview ran and am psyched for our fully produced run in November! Thanks to Jason for this little photo memento:

Students in my creative pedagogies class played this today, learning abt the children who historically fueled sign language formation. This experience spurred discussion abt accessibility & accommodations, hopefully spurring creativity in future teaching. 10/10

Consent is key to effective collaboration: w/o agency in the process of exchanging ideas & building together, ‘collaboration’ becomes control. Simply claiming “this is a collaborative process” doesn’t make it so.

I’m ridiculously proud of the students in my “creating with communities” class for facilitating a playback performance and community-engaged theatre event establishing circles of support for those whose identities are being targeted by the current administration.

Even if the poster was this.

Happy Ides of March, y’all.

Feeling more relevant than in many years past.

Baby’s first keynote—an international one at that! I’ve come far… from the farmland of the Palouse to Flinders U in Adelaide! I owe so much to the friends, family, colleagues & mentors who have both challenged & supported me along the way.

So glad I realized this invite wasn’t spam!
