Both proud and grateful that my son and I have come through a pretty terrible year with the help of friends and family. That's about it.

Riot Women was brilliant! Slow Horses not quite as good this series as last, I thought, but still worth sticking with. I enjoyed Down Cemetery Road a lot. Bookish I liked but not as much as I'd expected to (and I was a bit creeped out by the weird sections with their younger selves)

Physics for Cats was an excellent present for my twelve-year-old who loves both physics and cats - he enjoyed it a great deal but is a bit perplexed at the lack of cat content.

I would. Not sure what's in it but crumble is pretty forgiving.

There are often a lot of doctors in amateur music groups. I was at a musical weekend at 32 weeks pregnant, and remember surveying the room wondering which one I should approach if anything happened. I ruled out the geriatricians and gastro specialists. (Nothing happened until nearly 10 weeks later)

Wonderful! What's the Turkish term for the formation they make?

We had the latest sunrise last week! *Clutches at that straw*

That looks delicious. I made a basic sausage stuffing last Christmas (just good sausage meat and sage & onion stuffing mix, made up, mixed and baked in the oven). There was far too much and I used the last of it as "croutons" for a vegetable soup - highly recommended!

My twelve-year-old definitely learnt the rules first hand - one of the few classic series I've introduced him to that he's fully adopted as his own #SoProud

Patty looks like a very good dog who would chair a meeting efficiently and kindly.

My family's local orthodontist in the 80s/90s was called Mrs Payne

It's like Zoom, except a bit worse in every conceivable way

My okra recipe

1. Simmer the okra in however much water you like
2. Throw okra away

A white friend of mine who has non-white kids chose Wolverhampton as a place to live when returning from abroad in the early 2000s mostly because she thought they'd be likely to get relatively little hassle. As far as I know their experience was OK.

I shared my account with my (male) 12-year-old for most of this year. Listening age seems to be primarily down to music choices, with my many hours of political podcasts counting for nothing.

The podcast that finally got me to read Wuthering Heights (I read all the other Brontë books but had always bounced off WH before I got Patricia Routledge to read it to me) - thank you!

Juicy is increasingly used to describe some types of craft beer. I never know quite what they're getting at.
November 29, 2025 at 1:26 PM
Crunchy is ok if you're talking about a sugar topping, less so for the whole bun. Juicy is plain weird - I can see what they mean but am struggling to find an English term. Soft?

Or she could do a modest bit of equity release to fund the tax - which may not be levied until death/sale in any case (the details aren't out yet)

As a constituent of ZS, I can see the funny side but I'm also pretty angry.

In that particular example, old-fashioned machine translation wouldn't have confused vicious and viscous... (AI presumably made some weird assumptions)

Son has an inset day today and I thought we might pop to IKEA. That is a bad idea, isn't it?

Seconding this, please - and still wishing for a system of micro payments so I can read specific articles while supporting journalists!

Full marks for use of "has been paid" instead of "has earned"!
