Hurricane season is here.

When a hurricane forms, meteorologists can reasonably predict when and where it may hit, giving you time to prepare. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare can help keep you and your loved ones safe.

For more info: publichealth.jhu.edu/2024/hurrica...
Be prepared for a hurricane: Have an Emergency Plan. Identify a safe area in your home. Know your evacuation route. Pack an emergency supplies kit. Plan where to stay if you need to evacuate. Know where to get updates and emergency alerts. Protect Your Home. Secure windows and doors with storm shutters or plywood. Bring in outdoor furniture and secure loose items. Trim trees and clear gutters to minimize damage. Follow alerts and evacuate when you’re told to. If You Cannot Evacuate: Stay inside. Keep away from all windows, skylights, and glass doors. Listen for storm updates via radio, phone, or TV. Never leave shelter until it is confirmed that the storm has completely passed. The eye of the storm creates a brief, misleading calm while strong winds are still approaching. When Flooding Occurs: Move to higher ground. Never attempt to swim or walk through floodwaters. Avoid driving into areas covered with water. Avoid using bridges over fast-moving water. If you must walk through a flooded area, wear rubber boots or waders to avoid contact with floodwaters. In addition to the risks posed by their depth, floodwater is dangerous due to what may be in its depth: High levels of fecal contamination, chemicals, or hazardous waste. Snakes, rodents, or other animals. Downed power lines, which can electrically charge the water. Debris and other physical objects.
