I loved working (in a very small way!) on the digitisation of more VCH Big Red Books; these volumes are full of fascinating detail and it’s wonderful to see the first is now available online. Another brilliant resource made much more widely available!

Great to see this project getting recognition for its transformative work creating an HTR model for the transcription of early modern wills - still lots of fun to be had transcribing and correcting lines on @zooniverse.bsky.social
We really enjoyed speaking to @transkribus.bsky.social recently, and are delighted to see this write-up of our project.

@transkribus.bsky.social is generally coping well with these wills (or those I’ve seen at any rate), but its rendering of 17th October 1786 as ‘W Aatee twols’ suggests dates might need some work! Lots more entertaining material to fill your spare minutes on @materialwills.bsky.social Zooniverse

Loved working on this project and exploring the challenges of digitising the wonderful @vchlondon.bsky.social material. Full of challenges and complexities, but offers new opportunities and is so worth the effort to make these volumes available on @bho.bsky.social.

Really enjoyed @emilymayvine.bsky.social and Harry Smith’s article discussing serious issues around access to and quality of digitised sources. Highly recommend a read by anyone working with digital versions of manuscript sources!

I spent a wonderful summer as an intern with @ihr.bsky.social, working on the digitisation of pre-2005 @vchlondon.bsky.social volumes for @bho.bsky.social.

This is the first of two blog posts I wrote reflecting on the process:
