This cat remains permanently bedraggled, as if she’d spent her whole life living beneath a shed. However, she lives a completely lazy life under our roof and refuses to go out.

You know what I like? Films that last for 90 minutes. Films that last just long enough that I don’t need a toilet break or a drink refill, where the story isn’t overcome by needless filler.

I’m losing weight. Deliberately. It’s a struggle, though for the first time it doesn’t feel insurmountable. I’m making daily strides, getting over the initial hunger pains, and making it happen. I’m still thinking about food all of the time, but I’m getting there.

I have been neglectful of reading for years. I have been neglectful of writing. I’ve been neglectful of actually enjoying things for longer than I can remember. If there’s one specific thing from my long list of resolutions I’d like to achieve, it’s finding fun and finding myself.

Arrived back home after an evening out to discover that, quite incredibly, our living room hasn’t flooded. I’ve been having a mild panic about it since last night.

I’ve spent the day at hospital helping my wife overcome the back pain she’s in. Having someone with such a horrible and constant condition is heartbreaking.

The best part is that tomorrow we - fingers crossed - will be upgrading from 30Mb broadband to 900Mb. The village is finally moving into the 21st century.

Eight more working hours before I’m on leave. Three meetings and three pieces of work to finish. As it’s my Friday, I think that justifies a little celebratory drink when I’ve finished it all.

- Move a piece of furniture upstairs, single-handedly.
- Finally get around to taking an ever-growing pile of junk to the tip.
- Remove as much cat hair from the sofas as possible.
- Get some food in before we starve.
For now though, coffee in bed.

We’ve spent the afternoon tidying the office/craft room. Now we have one spotless room and a pile of materials stacked in the living room. This isn’t what I had in mind when we started.
