That famous line is now Basketball, basketball, basketball. In this interview, Ballmer quite rehabilitates what I thought about his tenure at MSFT: the age of Azure (he owns more of MSFT than Bill Gates.)

Think of it as a big, lopsided pie with a fondness for retirees and missiles. The rough allocation looks like this: Elderly: Around 10% of GDP. This includes Social Security (~5% GDP) and Medicare (~5% GDP).

Vitamin D = NBD

Vitamin D. Stop taking it. The last 20 years were a lot of talk about Vitamin D. In the end, it's pointless to take it (though it doesn't hurt, except your pocketbook.) Scientific American roundup and deep dive article.

I think it’s an overlooked miracle drug. Taurine’s Interaction with GABAergic Signalling Taurine is a β-amino sulfonic acid abundant in brain tissue and acts as a neuromodulator. It binds and activates certain subtypes of the GABA_A receptor (ionotropic inhibitory receptor) in the human/mammalian brain, although with lower potency than GABA itself — for example, EC₅₀ ≈ 116 µM for taurine vs ~3.7 µM for GABA in one study.

What to know about Tylenol, Folate, Autism

Lots of noise lately: RFK, Trump, Tylenol, folate, autism. Even GSK got pulled in. The Harvard/MIT crowd I talk to says: the Tylenol link is weak. Moms take Tylenol because they’re sick, and it’s the fever itself that’s more strongly tied to ASD risk.…

Moms take Tylenol because they’re sick, and it’s the fever itself that’s more strongly tied to ASD risk. That’s why the real research is focused on immune pathways, not acetaminophen. Folate and leucovorin? Same story—no meaningful data.

There are about 10,000x more pictures of you, minutes of video, words you have written, recording minutes of your speaking than your grandparents. More than enough to clone you.

What if sunscreen is bad for you? And all your dermatologists are plain wrong?
Inspired by this excellent piece by Rowan Jacobsen: Despite the standard dermatological position—“there is no safe level of sun exposure”—a growing body of research challenges this view by showing that moderate sunlight exposure is broadly beneficial to health, particularly for people with darker skin. What the evidence shows: Sunlight triggers production of vitamin D, nitric oxide, and immunoregulatory lipids—each associated with lower risks of autoimmune disease, depression, metabolic dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers.

Why the iPhone will beat the ChatGPT slab
Because talking is the fastest way to express ideas for a person, but watching video is the fastest way to consume ideas. Here’s a concise table benchmarking human information intake and output across different modalities, roughly quantifying bandwidth in terms of bits per second (bps) or words/ideas per minute (wpm/ipm) where applicable. These are estimates grounded in cognitive psychology and neuroscience research.

Gatorade was invented in 1965 at the University of Florida by a team of researchers led by Dr. Robert Cade to help the university’s football team, the Florida Gators. At that time: The University of Florida was still segregated. The school admitted its first Black undergraduate student in 1962, but Black athletes did not begin playing varsity football there until 1969.
