The dialogue is made out of sass and worn out tough guy cliches but it reminds you that you're watching a cheap gritty pulp comic in movie form.

What year is it? Doesn't matter
What war's he home from? Doesn't matter
What city is this? Doesn't matter
I love this kind of anti-exposition. It's such a "get in or get out" way to tell a story.

i never saved the source code. i sent the game as a zip to whoever was there to give me their email. and then i deleted the entire thing so that the only way it would ever live is with them the exact way we created it that day.

Kathy and Kyle out here acting like this shit's new. Like it hasn't been happening since the 60s just because none of their middle class whitefish friends ever had the dogs turned loose on them. No, they just don't wear the mask for you anymore because AI made your white collar skills worthless

We all held hands and shrugged at it each time they let the rich murder more people in our name, saying "oh well, at least it was way over there and not one of OURS".

Now look what it's got us saying, that an uninvolved woman in front of a killer with a murderboner wasn't one of ours?

We have enough armed and trained civilians that if we wanted this to stop, it would have. Like a reformed sexual predator, the government might be forgiven if it does enough work to change, but the trust and respect are never coming back and that's not crazy to say.

The rich got too eager with their push to flush out the lower-classes that they forgot they still need some of us to keep their money printers working. Use that.

Ordinarily these are all the things you'd -never- do to a friend or place of employment no matter what, but any company making blood-money off this war on civilians should struggle, under-perform, and be unreliable.

Broken and sinking as the industry of entertainment seems to be, I don't believe there are many points in human history as primed for the young and the bold to charge forward and plant something beautiful and new in the ground that rises.

I look back now, and while I feel the sense of defeat and frustration, I feel good about the "damage" we all caused to the self sealing industry and narrow audience. We helped remind people that the wheels of the world can be hitched if you're the right maniac in the right moment.

But for a small window between 2009-2012, GDC was a place where the fools ran the show. Cactus lectured while wearing an umbrella bag as a neck tie. Terry Cavanagh was gentlemanly smashed. Rami was a guy holding a glass bottle of coke with no opener and a sad face. And Silicon Valley watched.

What they really did is they went through and sifted us like wheat from chaff. Carefully selecting darlings to groom into new dynasties, creating rock stars out of some, punching bags others, and then hoping the rest would either be too bitter or tired to do anything but pack up and go home.
