“It is all my fault, is it not?” Her voice was but a whisper, her own breath barely tickling the inside of her dry lips. Though her father had long since left this plane, for a moment, she thought she could hear his mystical voice tickling the tips of her ears. You should have taken your devotions more seriously. The very thought plunged a sharp dagger into her heart. She curled into herself and gripped at her breast, but the plate blocked her path. It weighed down on her sternum, its sharp edges stabbing into her lungs. Pushing herself off the hibernation chamber, she started to loosen the straps holding the armor in place, but before she could remove it, the radiant glint of Father’s Sunstone caught her eye, freezing her in place.

She hugged herself tight as a violent shiver rattled her teeth and bones. The sheer, emerald dress caressing her skin offered little protection against the biting air, and the blue light glowing in the far off darkness was too dim to truly see. She closed her eyes and focused on the constant thrum of power within her core. Even in the darkness, she could visualize it—a glowing golden orb pulsating in tandem with her heart. Smaller than usual. Dull and hazy. But it was enough.

While magic is a main plot point of my wip, it's rare. In this world, magic is illegal & few can aptly wield it. Those who do, pay a price, exhausting both body and mind

Also, there's a rather unsavory method for nulifying magic. To keep things fair, ofc!

If looks could kill… This was definitely his guy. He had the whole punk rock vibe going for him. Besides that, his page was playing Basket Case by Green Day. Adam didn’t need to look at the rest of his profile to know that this guy had good taste in music. He’s perfect. Adam clicked open the text box to send him a message, but his fingers hesitated over the keyboard, the blinking line taunting him. What was he supposed to say? Hi. I’m Adam Reeves. I saw your ad. I wanna join your band. Ugh. That would be so lame, he thought.
