My first fabric collage.. a gift for a friend who once had Nikki Giovanni as a professor.

(Friend isn't on this platform, so I think my secret is safe 'til I give it to her this week 🙃)
Fabric collage composed on a piece of denim about 10x7 inches long. Jumbo button for the moon with textile cutout clouds above the ocean, which is depicted with strips of navy, royal blue, green, turquoise, then yellow with a final strip of mottled beige for the sand. The border between the sand and yellow is filled with various neutral-toned embroidered French knots. There are 5 lines stitched on the navy layer of various lengths to represent the moon's reflection. An excerpt from one of Nikki Giovanni's poems is chain stitched on the water : the royal blue layer says, "floating to shore.." the green layer says, "riding a low moon..." the turquoise layer says, "on a slow cloud." with the poet's name stitched at half the size on the right side of the yellow.
