Some of you may remember American Apparel. They were huge with young, urban consumers (often called hipsters) in the early 2000s. The company was popular for their US-made basics, such as t-shirts and sweats, which they marketed through sexualized advertisements.

Imagine someone writing “I want to put child abuse and molestation on the path to extinction” and later generations thinking anything but “we must build a Time Machine to stone that person to death in the past”

Cynically I want to say there’s some mutualism involved; both sides often benefit from the beefing by making themselves more central in their little network subclusters. Charitably though it’s probably driven by genuine feelings as often as not
