Award-winning writer, baker, and fiber artist. Also mom of two awesome little girls. New York/Vermont/London.
I'm wearing my I'm Just a Bill T-shirt and I've packed a picnic full of internationally grown vegetables and red, white, and blue tortilla chips. 249 years was a pretty good run. If this is how the American experiment ends, at least we're going out in style.

My body doesn't always mount enough of an immune response to COVID or flu vaccines. I get the shots anyways. If my kids don't get vaccinated, I get sick.
The Trump administration wants me to die.

Both my children were asleep before 8:00 this evening. Hell has frozen over.

I don't want to Wednesday today.

Do you know how hard it is to leave The Strand with only one book?

I told my kids they could get anything they wanted from the Trader Joe's frozen aisle for dinner tonight. Florence chose shrimp dim sum and Dina picked her "cheese curry and favorite chickpeas." The picky eater phase is clearly a thing of the past!

Of course we're boycotting Amazon the week we lose our seven year old's backpack, our stick blender breaks, and we realize we need a nightlight, all while my sciatica is flaring up.

On Mondays, I buy a big bag of bagels from our favorite bakery, discounted because it's the end of the day. We eat them throughout the week. On Fridays, I turn whatever is left into bagel chips. The world is so expensive right now; I'm getting creative.

I will be reading A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (book 2 in the Blood and Ash series) for the next hour-plus. Let me know if I miss anything really important. Or don't.

We just gave away our stroller. My babies don't need it anymore.

Why am I crying?

I have no idea who is winning the Oscars tonight, but I just finished Crescent City, so really, I'm the winner.

I'm participating in the Economic Blackout on Friday and you should too. I've recently started celebrating Shabbat. Am I supposed to buy challah on Thursday or can I get it from a small, local bakery on Friday? I'd bake it myself but can't access enough eggs.

I don't know who needs this, but Ibotta has $5.50 cash back on Opill right now at a number of nationwide retailers. It might be a good time to stock up if that's your method of choice.

His first season will obviously include The Producers and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Trump Says He Will Install Himself as Kennedy Center Chairman
The move by the president, whose authority to make the changes was not clear, is the latest attempt to bring a Washington institution under his control.

Have you heard? There’s a new bill that makes it harder for millions of eligible Americans to vote. Join me and @standupamerica.bsky.social in urging Congress to vote NO on the SAVE Act: act.standupamerica.com/letters/no-o...
Vote NO on the SAVE Act!
The SAVE Act is a trick to undermine our voting rights. Urge Congress to vote no on the SAVE ACT.

My seven year old stayed up all night reading and was so tired she refused to go to school then proceeded to throw a tantrum while I was on a phone call so I took the call in a hallway and a neighbor asked if I was on with 911.
Also, I baked Snickerdoodles. How's your day going?

I'm officially so in my 40s I'm telling off teenagers for using curse words on public transportation.
FYI, teenagers don't like being told what to do.

I just got an email from a Canadian underwear company I like. I'm wearing one of their bras right now and was looking forward to buying more. They've stopped shipping orders to the US because there's a 52% duty being added to their products.
Tarrifs at work.
Is America great yet?

When I was growing up, I listened to musicals and The Beatles. And Jimmy Buffett. I'm writing a novel set when I was in high school and I've put on music that was popular then. How do I know so much of it? This stuff didn't make it into a musical until & Juliet!

Just finished Onyx Storm. I'm not okay.

I just lit a scented candle, poured bath salts in the tub, and took a bath with Onyx Storm. This is an excellent way to Friday.

I tried to come up with something pithy to say about the administration's plan to house immigrants at Gitmo but I can't. There's nothing. I can't.

My first big accomplishment of 2025 is finishing the entire Throne of Glass series in 28 days. That's roughly 5000 pages. Thank goodness for books.
January 29, 2025 at 5:10 PM
I'm about to finish Tower of Dawn. I'll be alone in a hotel room tomorrow night. Should I barrel ahead and read Kingdom of Ash to complete the series or take a break and read Onyx Storm?

I know how trivial this is in the grand scheme of things.
