Just imagining if we had real social safety nets, how many people would be pursuing their cool creative dreams and what a wonderful place we'd live in. People wouldn't be so mean because they wouldn't be so stressed and we'd have so much cool art and businesses.

I loved these books, but they arent for the faint of heart. I read the Sparrow and couldn't understand why there was a sequel. Then I read Children of God and it was like a lightbulb went off and I suddenly saw the beautiful breadth of the story and the full circle of it.
Take some advice from @cadwellturnbull.bsky.social: You should read Mary Doria Russell's The Sparrow. Then you should read Children of God.

It only rook me ten years, but I've finally watched Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 and my main thought is this: Gale is a Mary Sue. I dont remember if there's a better explanation in the books but all of sudden, he's like special forces and maybe a pilot? Pffffft.

Here's the thing, even if people could use SNAP to buy "frivolous" things, I dont care! It's not a blank check. They have a limited amount to spend and if they spend it unwisely, so what? I'd rather give people money they might spend unwisely than let people go hungry. It's as simple as that.
