I wish there was some ray of hope here, but there's not. We've already lost way too much institutional knowledge over the last 3 months, and there's no reversing that. All I can say is that they shouldn't escape blame here. Call congress and tell them you know what's happened and who's responsible.

To make matters much much worse, we were also told that they will begin a round of Reduction in Force orders on May 7th. They're cutting our staff by thousands more. There's no logical justification for any of this except to kill the agency...

So essential things like IT support, equipment maintenance, training, human resources, state benefit liaisons, and countless other service needs, have stopped. We were told to not even bother trying now. Every office nationwide is basically on their own moving forward...

We found out yesterday that they gutted those regional offices past even their ridiculously low goals. There will now be less than 30 people in an office that had encompassed nearly 600 jobs before this week. We were told that their functions are effectively gone...

That's what's happened at SSA. Our regional office employees, who are the entire support structure of the agency, have all been forced to accept demotions to front-line positions. It didn't matter what experience and expertise these people had, they were reassigned based solely on pay grade...

The best analogy I can come up with is if the military reorganized so that everyone in a command and control position, along with everyone supporting logistics, was given a gun and sent to the front. There'd be no one to fix vehicles, deliver supplies, provide first aid, etc.

For those that don't know, DOGE mandated a ludicrous reorganization of SSA's internal structure that's going to cause it to collapse, and what we've heard is that collapse is more imminent than we feared.
