Canadian. Former lawyer and executive in the federal government. Now retired from both. Opinions are my own.

Popper's Paradox. Brandolini's Law, Russell's Teapot.
Methinks Mr. Blanche is exploiting the ATI legislation by stretching the concepts to the limits in the alleged interest of "caution", but in reality to cover up the maximum amount of information.

That goes against the spirit of the legislation.

Either go all "damnatio memoriae" on Trump, or when he dies, institute a national holiday to celebrate a return to democracy while burning symbolic effigies of Trump in the public square.

Until Mr. Musk indulges in significant amounts of evergetism, the only interpretation I can make of this statement is "I want to make even more money on the backs of people."

The majority of Canadians don't trust the president and support those who disagree with the regime (and I use the word advisedly). If US democracy ever comes out of 2026 with a semblance of the rule of law and respect for other countries' sovereignty, we--all of us--will have a lot of work ahead.

I've handled information requests, albeit in a different jurisdiction. I get the need to protect victims, the identity of others who are coincidentally in the files, or the possibility that data will be used to identify protected people. But I DON'T understand such extensive broad-brush redactions.

We certainly haven't forgotten. And we appreciate all those that disagree with the current US government policies. But the "good Germans" argument only goes so far. This is the government which you have COLLECTIVELY elected. It speaks for you. Make it go away, please.

Excuse me. Was I supposed to respond? Thanks for the off-hand dismissal. Enjoy your life.

That's what scares us. Trump lacks the character of a leader--regardless of party affiliation. But a substantial portion of voters either failed to perceive it, or yearned for this kind of ubuesque behavior. What does that say about the country? And I say this having formerly admired the US. Sad.🍁

You are always welcome here. 🍁

We assumed a partnership would be mutually beneficial. But at the same time, it's rash to think that the US did not benefit from this partnership, as you imply. As for Kevin O'Leary and Peterson, they sought refuge in a country that lends them better support--so they're your problem now.
December 20, 2025 at 2:24 PM
Exactly.

As a Canadian, my question is, why should any other country trust the United States ever again? Why, for instance, bother entering into negotiations on USMCA, if the US is going to renege on its word at the drop of a hat?

The safest approach is not to engage, not to trust, and walk away.

If a tree falls in the forest, and people saw Trump cut it down, is it still Biden's fault?
December 20, 2025 at 12:28 PM
What a disgusting little man Trump is. 🍁

I wold like to understand Putin's definition of 'respect'. Does it include accepting Russia's attempt to re-establish the former boundaries of the Soviet Union or control over Eastern Block countries?

If so, IMHO, he's got a problem.
December 20, 2025 at 12:23 PM
I've been thinking the same thing: what is Trump's "off-ramp" at this stage? A fatal stroke? A lingering death? A self-imposed exile to Saudi Arabia or Russia? Or a bid to install his family and pals in complete control?

One that his ego won't handle, is a gracious exit.

It's the only way Vance could win. He doesn't have Trump's persona -- not that I would have endorsed the latter scumbag.

What offends me is the unabashed moral inversion in all of this. I am very tired of Netanyahu and his gang playing the victim card.
December 20, 2025 at 1:49 AM
I'd suggest as delicately as possible that MAYBE Trump should deport himself.
