Pumpkins for sale. #Pumpkins #Farmhouse #Vermont
An assortment of pumpkins displayed on the lawn of a big yellow farmhouse along Route 5. There are baskets of colorful flowers decorating the exterior of the house. Limbs of an oak tree hang overhead.

Looks like I chose a good week to go on vacation. 😅

Centralizing IT services is a keen idea until the center keels over and stops responding.

And to think if I hadn't gotten temporarily lost in the woods today, I wouldn't have stumbled across some conical mushrooms. #Mushrooms #NewHampshire
A pair of mushrooms growing in the woods. They're surrounded by fallen leaves and pine needles.

I can't tell if that's sincere or meant to be facetious. Either way, my life is complete without any reminders of that guy.

In 2006, I learned that this tiny roadside knoll, a couple miles from where I grew up, was the site of an old schoolhouse ー the very one my grandfather attended ~1920.

The building was later sold, and moved 3 miles away where it's still in use as a home addition. #History #MeridenNH
Stop sign and a street sign where two rural New Hampshire roads meet. From the camera's vantage point, standing on the Whitaker Road, straight ahead is a small grassy knoll area where the Penniman School used to stand many years ago.

There are no historical markers here, so unless you know what to look for, it doesn't look like much of anything. I suspect most locals are unaware of its history.

You're probably not wrong, sadly. He was the suspicious white guy type.

I started to explain that I'm on vacation, and like to take photos of everyday life around the area where I grew up, but I didn't feel like justifying a totally innocuous activity.

Beady eyed redneck can keep his top secret coffee. He won't get future business from me.

A paranoid store owner stopped me from taking a picture of my cup of New England coffee in front of the machine. He had noticed me taking photos of antique tractors across the road, and was sure I was up to unspeakable evil.

I've been in that store many times. Not anymore.

I left the coffee.

I hiked out to see a loon nest today. I didn't see any loons, but I did see this cute little rodent along the trail. There are chipmunks in Tennessee, but they're more common up this way for some reason. #chipmunk #NewHampshire
A chipmunk peeks out from a boulder. It's surrounded by fallen leaves.

Same, and it's so useful with fall foliage.

Somehow I forgot to bring my circular polarizer on this trip.

Roadside food in New Hampshire. I didn't ask about the buns. 😅

Nazis marching through American cities aren't making this country "great." If America recovers, these actions will be a shameful stain in the history books ー right up there with Jim Crow, or worse.

I can feel the texture! Lovely work.

I had a Viltrox 23 f/1.4 (both versions). It's not a bad lens, although it had heavy vignetting open all the way.

More recently, I bought their Pro 27mm F1.2 XF. The extra speed adds some heft, but the ~40mm equivalent focal length is my idea of the perfect walking-around lens.
analogfusion.bsky.social
I think a good medium telephoto lens is a good compromise. If I were going to travel really light, I'd take my X100V. It's got the equivalent of a 35mm lens. My ideal is 40mm, but it's close enough.
analogfusion.bsky.social
I always favor carrying less. I thought of multiple primes that would be great for different scenarios, but in the end getting the photo is most important. I've wasted time changing lenses when I could be taking pictures.

The Sigma will probably stay on my camera most of the trip.

I've settled on a short list of camera gear for my trip:

Fujifilm X-T5
Sigma 18-50MM F2.8 DC DN | C
Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6
Chinon Bellami loaded with 1st gen Phoenix Colour 200
Lightweight tripod

I suppose it's not a good time to remind people that she was a plagiarist. I can't hear her name (or that of Rand Paul or Fareed Zakaria), without that fact being foremost on my mind.
analogfusion.bsky.social
I've read a little on the subject, and I'm sure you're correct. But I don't trust my ability to positively identify a safe variety.

If I can ever afford to travel where it's legal (under therapeutic care), I really want to see if psilocybin has the power to rewire my ASD brain.

Psychedelics hold so much potential benefit, but the US decided long ago that they have no legitimate medical use. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
A single dose of psilocybin may rewire the brain for lasting relief
Penn researchers found that psilocybin can calm brain circuits tied to pain and mood, easing both physical suffering and emotional distress in animal studies. The compound works in the anterior cingul...
