renewed every 2 years.... so the GOP could strip the agency's funding every half term, push for further "compromises" twice a term, and limit what documents are acceptable

plus they can drag heels about how long it takes to make/access documents,make the path as complex as needed, etc

my point is that if you compromise on this and give the GOP government the authority to control voter identification, you cannot trust them to use it in good faith... in fact, if you look at states like Florida that ban ppl with felony convictions from voting, they block lots of OTHER ppl as well

and who is the government atm?
theyd defund the group meant to deliver documents, theyd drag heels until after elections, and deny requests at every opportunity, even when the courts tell them they have to deliver

You could also argue that voter fraud at the polls is just.... not a problem. Seriously, it's so incredibly rare it has no significant effect, so spending all this money on it is a huge waste of resources AND the only thing it reliably does is block legitimate voters
