At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the goal is to anoint Marco Rubio as “Viceroy of Latin America” in good old colonial fashion. Democracy is the least of their concerns.

Establishment Dems don’t have a problem with American Imperialism, they are using the fact that Trump didn’t go to Congress to save face. Trump could eventually get impeached due to multiple reasons, but America looting the region is not one of them.

I agree but this also works as a distraction and makes the regime more popular with the right wing in Latin America (who has captured the media there too) because they see it as Venezuela being “liberated” and don’t care about legalities or any lives lost.
