As always, the tragedy is that 80% of the BBC's role and output as a broadcaster is exemplary and essential and should be cherished and preserved. Perhaps it's time to split news and current affairs comprehensively apart from the rest of the Corporation?

(I will not be adding this to his festive bounty for the year. He unfortunately really doesn’t need any encouragement in that direction. I love him, but every visit is an exercise in tongue-biting as he expounds the lastest mad shit the Telegraph has told him.)

It has a bit of RETURN OF THE KING in over-milking the ending - but it also has a brief but clear allusion to ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES, which can only ever be to a film’s benefit. Jon M. Chu is just really good at filming musicals (and I have always thought IN THE HEIGHTS deserves more love).

(I should concede, for context, that I really don’t understand what Marmite is. I watched a whole documentary once about its manufacture and came away none the wiser. It remains a delicious enigma.)
