This morning, the following email was individually sent to every MLA in the province of Alberta requesting intervention in the University of Alberta's decision to slash all child care funding for their students, faculty and staff.

The president was CC'd on each one as well.

Whether it's Tylenol causing autism or puberty blockers leading to permanent sterilization, populist leaders like Trump and Smith have zero qualms about spreading medical disinformation.

The lack of humility is only surpassed by the lack of compassion for those in need of proven treatments.

ICYMI - Parker owe $112,500 in fines and should be prosecuted for failing to file financial statements two Elections Alberta. But it appears nothing is being done. Why not? They won't say.

Elections Alberta ordered fines and prosecution in February. But authorities have not acted.

Wab Kinew? Obviously very cool.

Nahanni Fontaine? Extremely cool actually.

LOUIS RIELE? Cool.

Winnipeg Jets? Cool.

St. Boniface? Cooler than most of Toronto.

You know who isn’t cool? Ontario and Alberta right now.

These are just the facts.

Whenever I post on Twitter about moving to Manitoba the comments inevitably turn into how “bad” it is and after two graduate degrees and half a PhD I feel very confident in my assessment that the haters are simply mad that Manitoba (and Winnipeg) are objectively cool.

Exhausted. Enjoy the weekend. Go Blue Jays 🇨🇦

Yep, so in parts of Manitoba you have to show your ID and be buzzed in through the entrance in order to enter the store.

Some pretty wild data out of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

After introducing controlled entrances to Manitoba Liquor and Lottery stores, thefts and robberies have essentially stopped.

A decrease of 90%.

I was interviewed for a piece in The Globe and Mail by the amazing Amberly McAteer on the impact of Canadian employers implementing back-to-office policies.

We are moving backwards and are at risk of losing the employment gains made by Canadian women coming out of the acute phases of the pandemic.
When companies force workers back to the office, working moms are left behind
Return-to-office orders are forgetting - or ignoring - the needs of working moms

Joining many Edmontonians in mourning tonight.

Just devastating.

The University of Alberta put out a statement warning the union that striking will cause harm to the community

Earlier this year they slashed 100% of the funding to the beloved community-university child care partnership.

Who is acting in bad faith?
Opinion: U of A puts up barriers to access by cutting child care
We call on the U of A to make the choice to continue to support families and the larger community.

There is absolutely no way the employer is going to agree to change this as the basis of the university’s operations hinges on it (60k new students remember).

I would prepare for a strike. And I support them in doing so unequivocally.
andiewinnipeg.bsky.social
A big part of the disagreement between the union and the employer is the absurd two-tier pay system the university has implemented in order to find cheap labour to teach the massive undergraduate classes.

They get paid over 50% less and often have no benefits.

It’s egregious.

The Association of Academic Staff at the University of Alberta is headed to a strike vote

Before the “professors make a ton of money!” comments, note that the union includes Academic Teaching Staff that have been working under abhorrent, exploitative conditions for years.

New update on the looming University of Alberta strike.

The university has put out a formal statement accusing the union of lying.

Wow.
