Rhodamines exist in two forms: Zwitterion (fluorescent) and Spirolactone (non-fluorescent). Zwitterion is hydrophilic and likes water, but Spirolactone is hydrophobic and keeps its tail out of water. See our visualization of these two forms and enjoy #FluorescenceFriday !!!
