zeker voor de geesteswetenschappen, waar een 'grote onderzoeksgroep' helemaal geen garantie is op beter of zinvoller onderzoek. En iBOF was natuurlijk bij uitstek een oproep die ertoe leidde dat groepen gingen samenzitten om te zien hoe ze deze koe konden melken.

natuurlijk. Maar hier gaat het om individuele fellowships die bij FWO werden aangevraagd. Ook in het andere geval kan je serieuze vragen hebben bij hoe dit alles georganiseerd en uitgevoerd wordt (double-dipping is een belangrijk probleem), maar is het toch iets minder ridicuul.

zeker. Maar de facto geef je hier Vlaams geld aan senior onderzoekers, die dan jonge onderzoekers aanwerven die Vlaams geld binnenhalen. Vervolgens wordt er gezegd dat het eerste Vlaams geld rendeert omdat het ervoor zorgt mensen succesvol zijn in het aanvragen van andere Vlaamse financiering.

het mooie eraan is dat men op zo'n iBOF doctorandi en postdocs aanwierf om die dan het eerste half jaar zelf een projectaanvraag te laten schrijven. En dat men het dan vervolgens had over hoe dit soort calls toch onmiskenbaar als hefboom werkten.

ook mijn interpretatie, maar als je je geld zo onoordeelkundig besteedt, mag je wel verwachten dat ze achter een deel van die middelen aan zullen gaan.

#AcademicSky I'm trying to compile a list of academic conferences (> 1.000 participants) that were supposed to be organised in USA in 2025/2026 but that were canceled or made hybrid. (I saw some such instances here I think, but hard to find them again)

neen, vertaling is inderdaad moreel risico. Maar uit zijn uitleg bleek duidelijk dat het over moral hazard ging. En dat is natuurlijk een heel goede verklaring voor wat we zien; daar doen smalende reacties van economisch ongeletterden niets aan af.

zag hier een aantal smalende posts over Stijn Baert en zijn stelling dat moral hazard een goede verklaring is voor het grote aantal langdurig zieken in België. Ze kregen veel likes en kwamen van mensen die vermoedelijk nog nooit van moral hazard gehoord hebben.
