There is no salvaging, no "other side" to Wounded Knee. It is an example of "we told our soldiers lies to frighten them / they did atrocity because of their fear / we gave them medals to convince everyone they acted rightly."

I actually found a new platform that works pretty well. You interact with people in your area (within 5-10m or so) and your messages are deleted immediately after sending. I call it “actually talking to people.”

Its uselessness was directly linked to Musk’s takeover. Verification linked not to credentials but to payment meant useless (to me) accounts proliferated. The business model was wrong. People with money =/= interesting people.

This principle also applies to Musk himself.

Twitter simply became useless to me. I use social media to get information on other projects and books and to promote my own writing. I don’t want parasocial or irrelevant stuff. I go to Twitter now and it’s either Nazi stuff or videos of horrible accidents. It has no more value.

One of the biggest mistakes left-of-center pundits and influencers made was decamping to Bluesky. They made themselves irrelevant, shrunk their audiences, and dramatically lessened the positive impact they could have on our public debate at the precise time we needed it most.
