Any recruitment that got Price, Heggem, Phillips, Campbell is categorically not poor. It’s the fact we had to get rid of Fellows, Furlong, and Palmer at the same time that makes it hard to build a squad. And we still have to pay the wages of some top earners.

Tough to reconcile that comment with your views on Price. And Heggem coming and going for profit. We are a selling club with some wildly overpaid players on long contracts. We have no divine right to do better than we are. Our squad is average, and our recruiters are looking to turn water into wine.

We also won’t hold on many times. Not good enough. But you have to build a base and that is what Mason is doing. We have to find a way of getting out thought.

Do you think you can read anything into pre season?

Honestly, I find it hard to give too much energy to transfer rumours. If we don’t need to sell players we need then we shouldn’t, unless we know how to spend the money.

One thing we have to be better at now is monetising saleable assets. £2 million plus add ons was a farce. If any of Fellows, Maja, Heggem go then we need to get £10 million plus. With serious add ons. Full back cover you say? Not new ones? To get promoted we have to have better.

Thanks! I’m not against the appointment but it is a huge gamble. Effectively no managerial experience, expecting him to come in and challenge for the play offs when we are still cutting costs. So many areas to improve - goal scorer, unless Dike can be fit, full backs, centre half… What do you think?

Very unconvinced this is a good idea for anyone involved. The first time round he got a very, very good squad promoted and it was wonderful. But the Premier League season was one of my least favourite. And since then he hasn’t done a great job anywhere.
