This makes the common interpretations of "Baker's Chocolate" the result of semantic reanalysis and of "German chocolate cake" a rebracketing.

Does any of this matter? Not really, but I find it interesting.

The Canadian Shift is one of several vowel shifts currently happening in English in response to low back mergers. The Californian Shift being another notable example. And as with much language change, it's the children who are wrong. Except it's not wrong, it's just different
