Yeah, the students line was supposed to be a bit of sarcasm. It’s not actually true in my experience. Also, in HS I used videos and interactives to explain the course assignments and objectives, which was more effective.

This is anecdotal, but when I was an adjunct prof and then a HS admin, each of my colleagues took care to write a clear and accurate syllabus.
