Microwave physics. You can measure the speed of light using a microwave and cheese slices. The melted areas give half a wavelength and the frequency is listed on the microwave itself. We got about 6.6% over but not bad for processed cheese. 💡 🧀

I took this book out of the library in 1982 or 83 and I vividly remember finding out about black holes for the 1st time. The picture of C3PO was burned into my memory. Thanks @strangeadventures.bsky.social for finding this and giving it to me for free! A lifetime of interest was sparked on that day

Ok, I’m going to try and be on here more. Here is this year’s amaryllis. I planted it in January this year so that my students can see it bloom. (Usually it’s close and then Christmas break happens).

Every year I plant an amaryllis in my classroom in the hopes it will bloom before the Christmas break. Here’s hoping! I like watching the students take interest in its growth and development over the weeks as the weather deteriorates.

Pumpkins procured for the annual carving and seed roasting activity in food science. Pro tip: Buy the pumpkins early. One year I drove all over Halifax/Dartmouth looking for them because I waited too long but already told the class we were doing it.

I’ve had this River Birch for 3 years and today’s the day I decided it is now mature enough to cut away the lower branches to reveal the gorgeous bark!

Fermentation Friday. For 3-4 weekends this time of year I harvest all the red peppers and get them fermenting. I’ll blend them into hot sauce in a few weeks. F1 Longhorns & Ring of Fire chilies.
