Race is an interesting example, I am drawn to the resume studies where names are manipulated. They're not perfect but it seems like a clean way to get evidence of racism.

I moved over from hover+netlify and I've been very happy. But, I do anticipate it will get more expensive at some point based on the company's financials.

I really like Cloudflare, but I worry about when they shift from revenue growth to profit maximization. Enshittification imminent?
Cloudflare's net income has been negative over the past five years, while revenue is steadily increasing (Google finance graph).

Agree, but I think on both of those it took a lot of work to convince people of those causal effects (it's hard to build trust when there's no exogenous variation).

Another way to phrase my question:

What do you think of the statement "no causation without manipulation"?
andrewmarder.net
I think of it as an opinion question. How much do you trust casual parameter estimates when there is no source of exogenous variation?
andrewmarder.net
One cannot identify a casual parameter without a source of exogenous variation, agree or disagree?

I've enjoyed switching over to Cloudflare Pages. One gotcha there is they have a 25 MB filesize limit.

I really like this design submitted by 14-year-old Isla Dalisay-Hockett! 👏

In the US, less than 4% of charitable donations go to environmental causes. Put that together with 2% of income going to charity, we've got 0.08% of income going to environmental causes. Not a lot.

I also remember thoroughly enjoying that book as a 20-something but have almost no memory what it was about. Maybe I was charmed by the writing.

"69% [...] expresses a willingness to contribute 1% of their personal income."

That's surprisingly high to me.

It's a bummer that Bluesky is following in Twitter's footsteps way faster than I had expected. Maybe it's time to try out the fediverse?
andrewmarder.net
Seems like a good bad idea. ☕

If it's 97% fascist I don't think there's a lot of value in debating the last 3%, let's call it what it is: fascism.

Thanks for sharing this thread, it's very helpful context for me. So frustrating.

Moderation on Bluesky leaves a lot to be desired. I reported what seemed to be clear violations and nothing happened, very frustrating.

Super impressive. 😳
