Do you think they're just going around unplugging everything and seeing who cares? If the yelling isn't loud enough maybe they don't need to plug it back in?
The thing with research is we're a small bunch... But eventually the people yelling will be doing so literally, and they won't be researchers

Every dollar put into the NIH nets about 2.5 in economic value, so aside from the tangible innovation benefit there's economic benefit as well. I'd say that feels like hay >> gold. And remember the covid vaccine? Maybe not unlimited funding... But Operation Warp Speed made a huge difference.

And lo and behold, my hospital system, the largest in the US, started the largest series of layoffs in its history. Hard to believe it's not correlated with recent events.

Whether or not it's directly related to this or the recent funding freeze threat, or if it's just entirely local... Two non clinical members of our team at the hospital were laid off today with budget listed as the primary concern.

I'm debating whether or not it's even worth submitting one. It's been my primary plan since starting my postdoc - I'll probably go for it for the exercise and the training - but the future of research seems rough
