Well, #DoctorWho is 61 today. How better to celebrate? An Unearthly Child, in Lime Grove D, 1963! #CGSets

I've just watched the first episode, having never seen it before. I think I'll be watching the others.

I loved it - why didn't the live-action series examine its characters like this?
andreworton.bsky.social
I am! It's really good so far, too. Love the 70s fantasy æsthetic. Are you a big fan? :)

I might have nudged Corbomite up a point in hindsight, but I'm comfortable with the others. I'm almost entirely blind to fan wisdom beyond the big hitters, and it's always possible that scores may change on a second viewing! Shore Leave though was dire: random fantasy images strung together.

82) Yesteryear - I mean, that was better than anything in S3 of the series. Lovely: proper drama and characterisation, and a real plot, along with some gorgeous imagery of Vulcan.

Lily / Shoshannah (i.e. Suzanne)?
andreworton.bsky.social
Oh yeah, fair point! That's probably why I thought of it...

See, this is why I'm never going to climb Everest.

Just raw Blender - the trick is to keep everything organised in different collections so you can easily hide everything except, say, Deck 14. I worked out the liftshafts first because they cut through each deck and are essentially immovable. That gives a basis for deck layout.

The set is essentially four storeys high, and the first floor (second in US English) ceiling is the same height as the model ceiling, so everything above that doesn't fit.

I put a spiral staircase in because I reckoned you'd have to do soemthing if the lifts all knackered! I like to think it transforms into a slide in an emergency though :)

The struts are indeed different, and also, the Promenade and Ops are both at completely different scales to the model - the Promenade is particularly egregious, and doesn't fit with the radius of the model's window section at all.

And the top floors in Quark's bar are in space...

Thought I'd try to work out how the interior of #StarTrek Deep Space Nine works. Can't remember why. V rough work in progress. #DS9

It would be really easy to do...

81) Beyond the Farthest Star - Animation! Basic, but I like that it does big, exciting sets they couldn’t do in live action, and is trying something truly alien. Voice work is okay, if a bit booth-y. Some proper jeopardy on the ship, and this is a decent story. Lovely start. 7/10 #StarTrek

I do the same with English villages that sound like 1940s matinee idols. 'And now, The Dambombers, starring Shipton Bellinger, Hungerford Newton and introducing Manningford Abbots.'
