fellow Californians, please vote and vote yes on Prop 50. Do it early.

definitely. i think that's more of what i mean. i always have a few left over from the previous album which usually starts the process. then i know where I'm going. but i don't have any left over so i'm going song by song. but i kind of love the idea of writing and recording it and then moving on...

i figure this is very standard for most people, yeah. i just spent all of my 20s and half of my 30s writing songs, most of which were never recorded. I should say most fur trader albums are new songs with 2 or so old ones. but the old ones always set the mood and now it's all unknown territory

I'm in a songwriting zone i haven't ever been-which is-writing as I'm recording an album. until now most of the songs i've recorded were written already, and the process of recording was just documenting them. I've run out of songs. so now when I finish a song, I have to write another.

the era of the oligarch album (probably not, but it's for sure a right-leaning, out of touch piece of media?)

on the other hand I just read this @hearingthingsco.bsky.social piece in which tweedy is talking about songwriters who, like myself, are older dads and I just teared up a bit:

if you have a vision to have a child with someone you love, do it sooner than later. it only gets harder as life gets harder, which happens in your 30s. It's never a good time to have kids in terms of readiness or career, etc. trust me. but the more energy/spark you have the better for the child.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
yeah! I got it for a $200 at a record store here in my neighborhood. the guy had a bunch of reel to reels and was offloading them because they all needed servicing. but this one didn't! lucked out. there are a few things that need fixing, but the recording mechanisms seem to be working
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
it's really cool, now that I can use it haha
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
Oh right, yeah, I do that with my Tascam portastudio already, never really thought to do it with 1/4"!
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
hahahaha yep. for listening purposes, yes. but I can run songs and instruments through this, and back in, etc. also can track 4 mics live to tape. which is cool?

total novice to analog recording but I finally figured this piece out. It's a quadraphonic machine from 1974 when record companies were selling music for 4 speakers (?), which seems like the precursor to 5.1? Short lived tech. I thought I could multitrack on this but it's only stereo/quad. So live!
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
hahah agreed. I haven't done it. Probably won't. Though my wife tried a lion's mane drink recently instead of coffee and she liked it...
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
have you tried the mushroom based "coffee"?
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
Hmmm i wonder how many cinnamon brooms ill by this month. probably at least 12
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
there are* so many things

Hah. I really don't know what goes through the mind of a billionaire, and I hope to god i never do.
andrewpelletier.bsky.social
hahah. I just think there is so many better things to write about in 2025 as a grown adult with a global following!
