Mark Carney just gave what I think was quite possibly the best speech by a politician that I've heard given in my lifetime.

One year into Trump's term, let's do him the courtesy of listening to what he has to say. You don't need to sit through the whole thing, just listen to a few minutes of this rambling. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDBV...

I just don't understand the posts being made by conservative evangelicals now about how children in church are traumatized by protesters (which I agree is horrible), coming from people who don't seem bothered by immigrant children being traumatized by the state.

The flagrant hypocrisy and selective tribal empathy of many of my co-religionists today really turns my stomach. Shame on you. Many of our churches are overdue for a real reckoning.

Oh look, a news story convenient for his side happened, and Mohler crawled out of his closet of moral cowardice to comment. Just don't forget what he stands for the rest of the time, and be careful about the people he trains in so-called theology.

Yes, disrupting a church service because of one member was wrong. But why, I ask, are so many pastors posting unqualified condemnations of this, but have so little to say, at least without endless equivocation, about the many worse things the government is doing?

What really frustrates me is people who started out by saying I worried unrealistically about Trump years later turning around and worrying that I should be careful what I say; and at no point have they actually done anything to fix the problem along the way.

The people who in 2015 were telling me I was worrying too much about where Trump might lead and should calm down -- I don't even know what to say about those people now.

My heuristic is simple: if you supported Trump you are complicit in all the bad things he did that were reasonablg foreseeable by a sane person at the time you supported him; and if you continue to talk about ICE agents as normal law enforcement, you are guilty of their violence.

Tom is right.

I keep seeing people just openly announce that they're glad a protester died, specifically because of her views, and making jokes about it. I see this sort of thing many times every day on the internet.

Be as objective as you can; criticize your own side's wrongs; call balls and strikes. But if you are trying to sell me on some kind of parallel equivalency where both sides are equally at fault, or equally bad, I really am not interested in hearing whatever else you have to say.

ICE has already committed so many abuses of power and is operating at the behest of a criminal organization in the White House, so I actually don't think the specifics even matter, they shouldn't have even been there because they shouldn't exist.
January 7, 2026 at 10:34 PM
Honestly I don't even see the point any more in talking with Trump supporters. I don't know what can be done to make people care about anything that happens. Nobody is too far gone for God, but maybe people are too far gone for someone like me.

There is nothing that justifies anything about Trump being in office, and his administration's actions have been consistently cruel and destructive. Supporting Trump is and always has been, since he came down the escalator, foolish and evil.
January 7, 2026 at 6:59 AM
The White House officially publishing the Big Lie is a reminder that the Trump-supporting part of the country cannot be reconciled with until they repent and return to reality. Unfortunately, until then, there is no United States of America. This was their choice.
