Yesterday evening at Stinsford church, where Thomas Hardy was Christened, and his heart is buried. Thrilled to have this on our patch, and so well cared for. Called by to pray & so glad I did. #darkling #wessex #bleaktwigs

At Dorset History Centre today for our annual conversation: fascinating to view parish records like this from 1822, noting an unfortunate death from the ever-perilous game of Turn the Pudding. 2/2

Fab to perform at St Mary’s, Totnes last night, while storms battered the gothic windows & tree-tossed shadows played about. All very Eve of St Agnes. Thanks to Ant Wilson for this photo, showing off the sublime c15th screen, and me de-tuning. #savethelistedplacesofworshipgrantscheme

Blessing new clappers & clockface at Collingbourne Ducis. I love this mystical commissioning of curious things. Oldest bell in their tower was cast in 1499 so we edged up the staircase to wind the mechanism, wondering at the weight of history and a cache of ancient smokes, stuffed into a pigeonhole.

In the vestry cupboard, St Editha, Baverstock. If any doubt the church holds the key to eternal life, pop something on a peg in the vestry & see it live forever.

Despite its terrifying cover, this post-punk boy is honoured to receive a lovely review in the latest Prog magazine. “Eight songs of uniform charm and unspoiled directness” is among the nicest endorsements yet, so I can overlook an inexplicable whale behind Steve Hackett.
