I will eventually publish it all. I just need to clean out the garage, lose a few pounds, grade these papers, and organize the junk drawer. Then the writing shall begin!!!!

I put about 300 miles on my car, and twice that on my feet, visiting several Indiana nature preserves (Nature Conservancy and IN div. of nature preserves, INDNR) for some research. The bottle gentian was a new one for me. The toadflax, while non-native, sure is pretty. More details in alt-text
Bottle Gentian, a native late summer flower of wet areas. (Photo shows a striking blue flower and some green leaves) Colias butterfly warming up in the morning sun at the Kankakee Sands Nature Conservancy property. (Photo shows a bright yellow butterfly lit by the sun, resting on a leaf.) Some of the wide open spaces of the Nature Conservancy's Kankakee Sands tallgrass prairie restoration in Newton County, Indiana. (Photo shows a large grassland lit by morning sun, with blue sky overhead and trees in the distance.) Toadflax growing on the Nature Conservancy's/INDNR Prairie Border Nature Preserve. Also called butter and eggs or wild snapdragon. Very pretty, but non-native. (Photo shows several stems covered in orange and yellow flowers.)

I don't have this "luxury" most often, but this time around no students requested extra time accommodations (which would have then required that I get the test to the testing center early).

Exam is written, printed, and stapled with OVER 30 minutes until class starts. #winning

When we lived in Connecticut, we had a cat that got sprayed twice in 24 hours. I guess we were all slow learners. (Interestingly, we see virtually no skunks at all in Indiana.)

There is no reason to think (or even suggest) that the owl (or, especially "the species") would benefit. This is why we call it brood parasitism. (A better question is why not evolve defenses against it? See "mafia-like behavior" in cowbirds!)

I do it with all of our custodial staff at work and they are game, but also not slammed like a restaurant at dinner time! Eight months until I take a class to Panama, so I can use all the practice I can get.
andrewstoehr.bsky.social
I would like to do that more (because I need the practice!) but I always assume that they are busy enough that helping me with my bad Spanish is just a pain in the butt and not something they want (or should have) to make time for. Maybe I'm wrong?

I loved it. I've been trying to get everyone to watch it. "Elegant Trojan" 😂

Order placed! It says the paperback is black and white. Will that affect how easy it is to interpret some of the figures?

A crisp clean new light blue field shirt Me, wearing a light blue field shirt covered in showy tick trefoil seeds. I'm not amused. My blue field shirt, lying on the floor, covered in sweat, grime and thousands of showy tick trefoil seeds.
