If russia manages to damage ZNPP to the stage of nuclear disaster, it will have global consequences. This not only about pollution but that fact that all international organizations uncluding IAEA were unable to prevent it.

It is incredibly sad to observe systematic destruction of American science. This is going to have a global impact and likely a new race for a global leadership in science. Europe has certain chances, but if it wastes them, the lead could be taken by different actors.

NCBI put a notice on partial halt of its operations because of a lapse of governmental funding.

If you have any data (sequences, raw reads, genome assemblies, etc.) to submit, it is now better to do it in ENA [if allowed].

At the first day of the Nobel Week Ukrposhta issued a special stamp series called "Freedom in the equation" commemorating Ukrainian scientists killed by russia.

It starts with the following question/answer:
"Why there is still no scientists-Nobel laureates in Ukraine? - They were killed by russia."

Післязавтра вона якраз виступатиме на Literaturherbst в Геттингені зі своєю книжкою, було б непогано якби хтось про це спитав в кінці (але навряд).

One should never take children for such a "sightseeing".

What should be done instead:
- leave the place as fast as possible
- help others to leave the place if needed & possible
- follow instuctions provided by rescue workers and authorities

This picture shows what must be avioded for many reasons.
- russia uses double/multiple strikes routinely, so if you're on/near the spot targeted by ru UAV/missile do not spend your time on taking pictures
- the condition of targeted object is unknown
- you may disturb rescue operation

According to MFA minister Andrii Sybiha, russia used one of its most barbaric practices in its attack on Shostka - double strike. They [russians] hit the train, waited until resuce operation and evacuation begins and then hit the same area again to target rescue workers and evacuees.

This train connection is to some extent special to me - I followed its construction and then used it regularly for over a decade.

All this is very relevant because right now russia wages its war of aggression in Ukraine/Europe, and it must be defeated & held accountable. We need unity to achieve this.
After this there will be a need to reintegrate all the parts annexed/occupied by russia.

- real reunification is lengthy & not easy but woth it

In general, I think that united Europe is perhaps the most important achievement we all have. And for younger generation it is just normal, "default" condition.

Today Germany marks 35 years since its reunification. I think [as foreigner] it teaches us several important lessons which are very relevant today:
- evil can be defeated by untity (falling of Berlin wall followed by collapse of USSR)
- real reunification requires a lot of work & effort

Numerous recent attacks on European infrastructure aren't accidental. These are signs that we already live in WW3 for quite a while. It simply happens in a "hybrid format". The faster we admit that and act accordingly [btw the aggressor is known] - the better are the chances for normal future.

Finally, this allows people to avoid falling into a trap of student loans. This is a hugely important , and makes a major difference in comparison to the US, the UK and some other countries.
