Not just Ukraine but all of Europe. Soon it will be a dictators playground full of little Orbans licking the @sses of Russia, China, Saudi/Qatar and USA. Vassals, not competitors. The way they want it.

Add to this list that Trump called the reporter who grilled MBS about Jamal Khashoggi "insubordinate".

It's personalist dictatorship all the way down. Sedition is when you thwart MY plans. Insubordination is when you step out of MY line. Treason is when you oppose ME.

I think in the near future the phrase "realDonaldTrump" will be used to imply something is incredibly stupid. Like, "riding a tricycle on the 405 freeway is real donald trump."

I'm not arguing in defense of R, my point is, it's not kindness, it's being an active civil society, taking responsibility for and participating in government, is what makes all the diffrnc. US has a clear advantage there with its 250 years of democracy I hope we'll see that it amounts to something.

Well, a lot of people in Russia are very kind, feed the stray cats and help strangers. I don't think this nation is kinder on average. If I were to generalize I'd say it's the sense of agency vs withdrawal/apathy is what differs. But we'll see how that plays out in US under oppressive government.

re: third rate society, i don't know about that. I've experienced both theirs and US societies for roughly 25 years each and I won't say US is any better. From education to arts to public discourse, drinking, racism, crime etc - not much difference. Higher standards in some areas / lower in others.

Diplomacy was never a safeguard against anything. Strength was. Strength enabled diplomacy. Please show me a single case where diplomacy without the strength behind it solved anything.
