Dice Legends, a RPG deckbuilder we've been developing for the last 7 months will finally release in just a few days - on October 10th 🥳

we've put lots of blood and sweat into it, so I hope you'll check it out:

I was more frustrated that the other boss died to a stupid mcguffin. The post-game is written rather cringy, cause literally everyone goes "why are we still doing this", I'd skip the dialogues haha

the gameplay is astonishing though, and it was cool to play through early access and see it expand

yeah, I can see your point and I've already read better endings that people have proposed. But to me it was rather straightforward, no subversion whatsoever - the game established that the bad guy is unkillable so I thought character assassination would be the only way to murder him

that'd be cool, Milo! be sure to tell me what you think of it 🙂

it started out as a simple "face-lift" for an indie Ukrainian game and turned into a fully-customized deckbuilder with people all around the world contributing pixel art, 2d art, sound design, etc. There's still a room for improvement (and we're working on it), but it's crazy how far we've come

Our heroes are our main draw:
- a tanky lion that can fortify himself and deal ridiculous damage
- a sneaky frog that can split dice and play multiple debuffs per turn
- a powerful wizard with 3 different Imps that create ridiculous combos. he may be a crow, but he's my GOAT, very fun to play

Dice Legends is a StS-like with dice rolls and RPG elements - over the course of the production we've added character stats, random events with dice rolls, and a sprawling storyline written by Rafal Jaki of Cyberpunk Edgerunners fame 🙂

personally I thought the ending was good, it made total sense to me, but the post-game narrative kind of falls apart and all the good plot points ultimately lead nowhere. The Hypnos storyline is the main offender

Smaller publishers should consider accepting written series pitches from writers without fully finished comic book pages…otherwise you’re putting a huge financial burden on writers and you’re selecting for people who can afford that

Anyone have a particularly hot comic take?

it simply doesn't provide ANY value to the readers. I'm not saying people shouldn't crowdfund their books to start out, but maybe they should think how they want to proceed from there, cause it can't be the definitive way to put out stories

and also I might be completely wrong on all fronts, lmao
andriylukin.bsky.social
...c) supporting the creators campaigns again, cause they can't break away from the fucking platform (which contradicts the KS initial goal btw)

tl;dr imo the crowdfunding approach stagnates the growth of comics as an artform and shreds our ever-shrinking readership even more.
andriylukin.bsky.social
I'm calling it a mousetrap, because I feel like you can have "a successful campaign" with a very low amount of readers. And in the long term, it won't help creators or artform in general if the readers would get bored with a) paying more money; b) receiving the book SOMEDAY or never...
andriylukin.bsky.social
...so printing 3000 copies might even cost the same as printing 100. But you cannot change the price mid-campaign if you want to print more (it would be unfair), so you're stuck with it, stagnating the reach of your book.
andriylukin.bsky.social
What I'm saying is that KS encourages creators to get as much money from a backer as possible in order to make the project a reality when imo comics should be more accessible. Non-creators don't know this, but the cost price of printing books goes down the more copies you order...
andriylukin.bsky.social
it also encourages you to produce useless promo fluff that artificially inflates the pricing of different reward tiers. And by "produce" I mean lots of creators actually put a lot of money into them when they have no guarantee their campaign will succeed.
andriylukin.bsky.social
so in order to hit The Number, creators usually up the prices of their books - it's easier to convince less people to buy your stuff, and you have a goal to reach. If you put a low price, you might not reach your goal even if more people are interested. Think of it as a Balatro score
andriylukin.bsky.social
it's many different aspects, I probably won't do a good job of combining my thoughts properly. The main problems are pricing and scaling. The platform encourages the creators to "hit a number", instead of "selling more copies". The readership amount doesn't matter
