I did - and couldn't complete with your excavation. I can offer only a Roman ditch, truncated by a modern field drain, which had early medieval gold in the top soil. A working shot from 2 weeks in Northumberland, with amazing Newcastle students and my mate James Gerrard.

Four years ago today I was gifted a new liver. I thought i might never be able to dig again. Today, I find some twat put a field drain down a Roman ditch I'm digging with our splendid Newcastle University team. To be honest, I don't know which day was worse.

For #findsfriday I give you this pommel - a Scotish type, I believe, found on a battlefield site, with permission. Any comporanda welcome from Scottish colleagues @postexgem.bsky.social or @hornesupremacy.bsky.social or anyone else, of course. I can only find examples on carved stone.
