Excellent writing as ever, Lewis, on a saddening and maddening subject.

Anyone who takes an innocent life intentionally and without true justification should be seen as a bad person by EVERYONE no matter your political leanings or which "team" you support.

When did being sensible, kind, understanding, thoughtful and trying not to be biased become such a bad thing?

Equally, it's another milestone marking the dangerous current trend for polarisation, ignorance and knee-jerk responses that is increasingly pervading global society. We are ALL being ill-served by biased sources of information, overblown propagandists and grifting arses on both right and left. ...

no one should be shot and killed for their beliefs, values or public persona.
It is another stark warning about the nonsensical firearm situation in the USA which, whilst part of their history, should, like so many things before, be reassessed to protect children and adults alike. ...

I once laughed so hard at the Collings and Herrin podcast that I tripped over Bernie Ecclestone on Brompton Road.

I was talking about Dickens’ era writing once and conjured from thin air the example of a law firm called “Beltforth and Lambsworthy”.

It has stuck in my head since.

I immediately could see their offices, desks, clothes, faces, manner of walking, family.

Everything.

Every time I watch The Last Crusade, my opinion becomes a little bit stronger that it is actually the best of the Jones movies - the acting exceptional, Jones & Jones Sr are terrific (and emotional), the tonal balance and timing of key moments is excellent and it’s properly funny. I love it.

They are all great (particular shout out to the brilliant Riz Ahmed and Olivia Cooke in SOM) but it’s Everything Everywhere for me. It left me with a feeling hard to find in cinema (or anywhere else) these days: Joy.

BM & DDC are harmlessly bad but Fifty Shades is offensively and dangerously bad: it is to the world of consensual and respectful S&M relationships what Braveheart is to accurate depictions of Scottish History.
