This is old af technique from the Vietnam days. Now NATO operates by first gaining air superiority and lots of BVR tactics. Nothing like what we are doing here in Ukraine with currently contested airspace. If Ukraine gained air superiority they wouldn't need to use such risky tactics. AWACS etc
