Got up to Kenosha just in time to shoot the same fall photo I always do.

Anyone know if the Arsenal is open?

Now I'm wondering why it's like that! Prop taxes do pay for some operational stuff, too. Anyway thanks for chatting!

Meanwhile, the primary source for operations (sales tax) is a lot more volatile and linked to the economy. It’s shrinking now and hurting the city.

Not to say all this is the *right* choice, but that explains some of the contrast… which def can feel weird.

Denver faces its biggest budget cuts in years. How did we get here?
Critics blame Mayor Mike Johnston’s spending, but he says he’s shrinking government.

It goes back to taxes. Denver voters have approved a slice of property taxes to only be used for debt service on (mostly) one-time costs. Old debt is getting paid down so city leaders are tempted to put new debt on. Property tax is fairly reliable/steady so I guess they feel confident in it.

Am I losing it or is this middle one wrong? From a City of Arvada mailer.
A diagram of a bicycle mixing zone shows a car crossing the solid white lines instead of the dashed white and green area.

The contradiction of the budget this year. No money for operations, but plenty of capacity for long-term debt.

I can’t imagine what the victims’ families are going through. But I can more than imagine running through those woods. I know this would be my wife, myself, for my kids. Truly we are all wounded.

This woman literally ran through the woods to reach her son, who was thankfully safe, in the Evergreen shooting.

“I think if I’m being honest with myself, I always knew it was ‘When, not if?’”

Families of 900 students faced this today. 4 families facing worse — injuries and at least one death.
Jen Weber watches with relief as her son, an Evergreen High School freshman, leaves the school on a school bus after a shooting there on Sept. 10, 2025. She hiked through the woods to get closer.

NEW: Colorado Gov. Polis executive order on COVID vaccines. It effectively grants a prescription to whoever wants the vaccine, allowing them to get vaccinated without a doctor visit.

State-regulated health plans would be required to cover the cost. Some employer health plans may not have to.
