Aw... This already hurts watching. Hooe for a quick recovery.

I see the point, but then: assume I get into politics and have to give up my job and sell my home because I rent out the upper floor? Will I ever be able to get back into my job after a few years? Honestly: very few sensible people would take the risk. Only full time politicians would, which is bad.

No: it's one third which doesn't say the same and another third which didn't care. The US is doomed because of ignorance and complacency.
August 9, 2025 at 8:31 AM
Unfortunately the US produces the largest bulk of climate gases. Otherwise we could just say: sure, build even more vehicles which noone outside the US wants - but then don't complain about it like you already do.
Saw a F150 Diesel today here in Switzerland... It's so out of place.

Yes, anger because of this: totally inappropriate.

This map is misleading: 1949 to 1967 Gaza was Egypt, the Westbank was Jordan. Then those 2 countries attacked again and lost (again). They shouldn't have: Palestinians would be Egyptians or Jordans today.
Clearly what Israel does now is a disgrace, but there were missed opportunities on both sides.

I kind of agree, but for non english speakers like me it can be utterly confusing (both they and you in case of plural). English already has the benefit of being almost gender neutral, compared to German.

Increased refinement of gold for a specific country is always a sign of lacking trust in it's currency and economy.
August 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM
It's not really a problem for Switzerland. Our government was even thinking about how we can reduce gold exports to the US as they make up almost half of the deficit. Now Trump solved this issue for us, as this will end gold refinement. Now: where else will it be done? Noone will risk it.

It was discussed in the early 90ies during the reunion and Germany ceeded any claim on the territory. Main reason: they didn't want to deal with a large russian population. They've seen the problems with that already coming, looking at Latvia, Lithuania etc.

And because of the tariffs, less will be imported, as people and businesses don't have more money to spend overall. It's so stupid. With some countries like Switzerland trade has basically stopped (39% tariffs).
August 8, 2025 at 8:54 AM
Unfortunately until now our government sticks with it - officially. But people start collecting signatures now to force a public vote and kill the F35. As someone pointed out that narrowly happened to the Grippen (we should have bought that one).

Abysmal... Good thing that ESA will have the Copernicus CO2M satellites providing the same information and mich more very soon.
Also California's CARB has their own satellite Tanager-1 in orbit.
Unless Trump orders spaceforce to destroy those...

There are "de-googled" versions of Android and some manufacturers who support it officially. Fairphone being one of them.

That would require a change in the voting system, too. Away from majority vote towards proportional representation.
There are voting systems where you give a vote to a party as well as to a candidate (can be in different party). Seats then distributed among the top runners of each party first.

I especially like the "smartspider" view which is based in past voting recordsof a candidate:

Yes, it's very helpful not only for general elections, but also for referendum votes of which we have many each year.
Check and balance is not just the 3 executive, judicial and legislative branches: we people are the 4th and have the final say.
August 5, 2025 at 5:15 AM
Oh yes, I agree, that's ugly. But the one above I think is quite ok. Could be placed anywhere, that's true. Wouldn't be noticed here in our street.
August 4, 2025 at 1:35 PM
I'd love to check that myself, but I haven't found an Aurora Avenue in Leslieville on Google. However, I know there are some ugly mid-rises from the 70ies around here, too. I think I know what you mean.

I've sold my Model 3 in March this year. It was a 2019 model, one of the first ones delivered in Europe. Was thinking about selling since Elon acquired Twitter and supported Trump. When he did the "Hitler Gruss" I immediately decided: that's it, I've had enough. Lost money, but feeling relieved now.

Thanks for that link. So you say local short/mid term storage helps to reduce the transmission problem. Of course more transmission is needed in any case and depending on the structure of a grid this can be a major task. So we should do both and start now.
