Heterathrus microcephalus on our Weeping Willow - a sawfly miner I rarely see. Lyonetia prunifoliella mining Blackthorn seedlings in the garden. Lots of frass extruded under the leaf is characteristic

This male Tachina from Shotesham (E Norfolk) in August looks pretty spot-on for the newly colonising (or at least newly recognised) T. magnicornis

Marginal veins of Nymphaea alba (left) and Nymphaea candida (right) for comparison.. Veins of candida join to form closed loops, those of alba end at the leaf edge. Of course there’s a hybrid too, which is common where they meet.

Finding pseudoscopions. Our compost bin had Pselaphochernes scorpioides in it. To search: scoop out top layer of kitchen/garden waste & put in bucket. Sieve next layer down using garden riddle over a bowl. Then use finer potting sieve over tray. They are small, around 2mm. 1/2

A plastic garden compost bin with the lid off showing the contents - a mixture of kitchen and garden waste. On the grass next to the bin are a plastic bucket, a black plastic garden riddle (sieve) sitting over a red bowl, a smaller potting sieve on a round plastic plant pot tray and a white plastic tray with sieved compost in it. A white plastic tray with sieved garden compost in it. Roughly in the centre is a tiny pseudoscorpion which has been circled in blue on the photo. White plastic tray with sieved garden compost and two tiny pseudoscorpions in the middle, highlighted with blue arrows on the photo. Close up of a pseudoscorpion on a white plastic tray. It is pale reddish brown with long arm-like pedipalps that end in claws.

Great find, very few recent records of this species.

Really enjoyed talking sawflies all day long today with the @norfolknats.bsky.social

Great stuff, thanks for confirming!

Increasingly regular now across much of the south-east.

Not a Clancy's Rustic Ian?
andymus.bsky.social
Still never had Clancy's here in Shotesham. It's so often the case that migrants/colonists take longer to get established out here in the sticks, compared to the city.
andymus.bsky.social
I've even prepared some sawflies for people to play with...
