You might easily take this for tropical rainforest in some faraway country.

But it's an Irish temperate rainforest, a much *rarer* habitat.

And it's equally threatened, only by masses of deer, goats, and sheep, rather than chainsaws or bulldozers.

1/5 Wren Roosts
As autumn progresses the wrens in the garden will be seeking out cold weather roost sites.
Here they use the log shed - they love something that is cave-like.
The wren is the last bird to go to roost - often in the half-light, as bats are emerging.
You need to watch carefully.

4/4 #Salmon farms in Scotland are foreign owned. They pay relatively little tax, and strive for automation, whilst leaving us a legacy of pollution and damage. This is the antithesis of what should constitute a 'Good Food Nation' @mairigougeon.bsky.social

More than a national scandal, it's verging on corruption by senior civil servants who have allowed Regulatory Capture by big fishing trade bodies. Time for a full independent Inquiry. Happy to provide reams of evidence. @johnswinney.bsky.social @mairigougeon.bsky.social

Encouraging read, been going on for a while in NZ & Nordics

“The high-level math that we’ve come up with is a financial break-even point of about 4 to 5 years, over a 10-year time span, you’re definitely coming out way ahead"

Still no word of explanation from Scottish Natural Heritage for the lack of any decision making on the action to be taken over the loss of the Golden Eagle, Merrick. What's going on with Nature Scot ? @theferret.scot @robedwards5.bsky.social

17 months! What's the hold up? Why isn't this decision-making process a priority for NatureScot?

The consequences of this inaction were made v clear yesterday, with the suspicious disappearance of two more Golden Eagles in south Scotland.
