Today we're dissolving gold in aqua regia! Gold is expensive, but in the scheme of things for a synthesis lab the price (~$183/g) is not that different to other speciality chemicals. ##ChemSky #OzChem
Small pellets of 24 carat gold. Gold pellets in a beaker also containing aqua regia. Gold dissolving into aqua regia. The solution is orange and bubbles are visible at the top.

We show that these libraries can easily be screened for photophysical and catalytic properties. Finally, true to our core research interest, we've identified six promising metalloantibiotics active against Gram-positive bacteria in the nanomolar range with good therapeutic indices.

We've developed a high-throughput method using CuAAC "click" chemistry to synthesize 192 new Ligands and 672 novel metal complexes.
This approach opens a new dimension in the exploration of transition metal complex chemical space.

After 2.5 years and experiments across 4 countries our comprehensive study on platinum cyclooctadiene based metalloantibiotics is now out as a preprint. It has it all: Structure-Activity exploration with some tricky chemistry, In-depth MoA studies and in vivo trials on topical infections.

This is perhaps the most applied research we have done, demonstrating that relatively simple glycol/water mixtures can be transformed into high-performance anti-icing systems using simple molecular gelators. This is a cost-effective approach that may lower glycol usage.
