On this day in 1944, Woody Herman Shaw, Jr. was born to play the flugelhorn (as well as the trumpet & coronet) in jazz groups, bands & orchestras, some of which he led. Before his too early death, he was also an established jazz composer and educator. Always a worthy listen. #OTD

On this day in 1911, James Gregory was born to become a character actor w. a distinctive voice. Regularly cast as a military or police officer, in films & TV shows, he did a star turn as a pol in 'The Manchurian Candidate.' But to me, he'll always be Inspector Luger. #OTD
